Automation

Spreadsheet automation that gives you back your month-end

If you spend hours every month cleaning exports, copying ranges and rebuilding the same summary, that work can usually be automated inside the file itself. We design it, build it and document it.

The hours you can get back

Manual spreadsheet work is not just slow, it is where mistakes come from. A skipped row, a paste into the wrong column, a filter left on — and the report is wrong without anyone noticing.

Automation replaces those steps with logic that runs the same way every time. The goal is simple: you drop in the new data, and the file does the rest.

What we typically automate

Most of the value comes from a few recurring patterns:

  • Cleaning and normalising a raw export into a usable table
  • Consolidating several tabs or several monthly files into one view
  • Automatic recalculation of totals, margins, VAT or commissions
  • Reports that refresh themselves when the source tab is updated
  • Status and follow-up logic: flags, colour rules, overdue detection
  • Structured data entry with validation so bad input is blocked at the source
  • Scheduled scripts in Google Sheets for recurring housekeeping tasks

How we approach it

We start with the manual process as it exists today, step by step. Some steps disappear once the file is restructured — that is often the cheapest automation of all. The rest is built with formulas, Power Query, pivot refresh logic or, when it is genuinely the right tool, a script.

We prefer the simplest mechanism that works. A file full of macros that only one person understands is a liability; we document what runs, when, and what to do if the input format changes.

What makes a project straightforward

Bring what you have — even if it is messy:

  • The current file and one recent export
  • A description of the steps you repeat manually
  • How often the process runs and how long it takes today
  • Who else uses the file, and what they must not be able to break

Where automation stops

We work inside spreadsheets. We do not promise live connections to banking systems or to platforms whose access depends on your own plan, credentials or admin approval. Where a direct connection is not realistic, we design a clean import step instead — a few seconds instead of a few hours.

Complex or unusual automation may need a custom quote beyond the standard subscription. Everything we deliver is built and reviewed by the Sheet Partners team before it reaches you.
